Who develops the bosses?

Successful senior executives are often said to be excellent at training and developing their own staff. But surveys repeatedly show that many feel uneasy about spending time and money on their own further development. There are always far too many pressures on available time and budgets.

Many leaders also report that they often feel they are expected to have all the solutions, whatever the problem. (If you ever think this expectation is unrealistic, be assured, it is!) Self-development can be a powerful solution to this dilemma, but on its own, this is very hard without support from others. Wise leaders will always want to share and debate their most pressing issues with their most trusted peers in confidence - not just to take another view today, but also so that they can learn for the future.

“Sometimes, there is nobody so lonely as a leader, however charismatic and capable.”

The ‘SELF’ Solution

This Senior Executive Leadership Forum (‘SELF’) has been established at the request of several of our clients to meet these needs. Many members say they don’t so much want a ‘course’, but want to learn from their peers in very different organisations, in mutual good faith and in deep confidence. They want to know if their problems have ever been met before (they often have!), how they were handled and what happened. They want to test their judgements on difficult organisational issues against others, if possible before they may ever arise, and to learn from good practice.
