Calendar dates for August
Throughout August, the whole of the UK is buzzing with great festivals - A choice of Music, Sports, Food and Culture are all available. Here are some that we think you may like.
7 to 31 August - The Edinburgh Fringe - biggest arts festival in the world. During the 3 weeks of August the whole Edinburgh becomes an open festival - there are thousands of registered shows and tens of thousands of individual performances with something for everyone from theatre, comedy, music, dance and exhibitions
28 to 30 August – Reading/Leeds Festival 2009 A rock and pop extravaganza held in Bramham Park. Leeds answer to Glastonbury
30 to 31 August - Notting Hill Carnival - Europe's Biggest Street Party. The first day of the carnival (Sunday) is traditionally Children's Day, with the parade and events aimed at the whole family. The second day (Monday) is for all ages to dance in the streets. The parade floats keep moving through the streets till about 9pm
29 to 31 August - England's Medieval Festival at Herstmonceux Castle uses the restored 15th century castle as a backdrop for three days of battle re-enactments and a Medieval Village fair. The Medieval Festival, attracts medieval re-enactors from as far afield as the USA, Canada, Central Europe, Scandinavia and Australia
