Starting off on the right foot
Jeremy Thorn offers some vital tips on minimising slow and bad debtors.

There are few things more annoying and disheartening at work than to pull out all the stops to win business, to deliver it brilliantly, and then to find that all your hard efforts were for nothing because you didn’t get paid.
Especially when credit tightens internationally and in times of major economic uncertainty, it is especially prudent to guard even more carefully than usual against the risk of not being paid.

Talent, the credit crunch and you

The buzz words of 2009 are ‘credit crunch’ and recession. The message through the media is doom and gloom, with several years of economic downturn expected. The wealth of economic evidence suggests that the global economy is slowing down.
With all this negativity it is all too easy for companies to jump on the bandwagon and decide that the future is bleak, turning to look at the negative aspects of HR and people management. In many cases this often means cost cutting exercises. This knee-jerk reaction from some CEO’s and managers in response to the gloomy outlook may be to slash jobs and mothball training and talent management programmes immediately, as has been seen in previous recessions worldwide.

QED Bio-Entrepreneur School

The opportunity for companies in the bioscience sector to take up a small number of “paidfor” places represents a new initiative for the QED Bio-Entrepreneur School 2009 which is core-funded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) through the Greater Nottingham Partnership. The school is a three day, intensive programme designed to help delegates explore their entrepreneurial potential, develop essential enterprise and innovation skills and learn about commercialisation of IP in this very specialist sector. Places at previous schools have been provided on a fully funded basis to life-scientists who are exploring commercialisation and entrepreneurship but this new idea extends the opportunity into the corporate sector.
