Innovation – not for me?

‘Innovation’ for many is a term solely associated with either new enterprise (start up companies) or research and development within multi national organisations. This article aims to dispel such myths based on the understanding that innovation is something much more real and practical, not just an isolated department tucked away in a large organisation. Indeed innovation is a crucial business activity for all organisations regardless of size and sector.

Public Sector changes

Some 3 years ago the government set out to simplify business support provision which resulted in significant changes being made to the structure of the UK’s Business Links. The Regional Development Agencies now have devolved control of Business Link services for their region and most have appointed one organisation to run the operation on a regional basis.

Yorkshire and the Humber is the latest region to adopt a regional Business Link Service, which is being managed by Y&H IDB Ltd, a joint venture between Exemplas and Reed in Partnership. The new organisation aims to bring about improved business support for the region although the changes have not been very visible to customers ‘at the front end’ yet.

QED Consulting have excellent working relationships with most of the organisations involved in delivering business support and we would love to hear about your experiences and views on the new structure and services in your Region. Please send us your thoughts, to do this you can call Rebecca Hughes on 01302 767896 or email us at rebecca@qedconsulting.co.uk

National Training Awards

For the first time, this April QED Consulting is entering the Learning and Skills Council’s National Training Awards (NTA’s). Under the category of ‘providing education and training’ (with the full support of Steve Brimble, Managing Director of Bridon International), our entry will showcase the comprehensive training and development programme that we have designed and delivered over the past 4 years for Bridon International.

Aside from hoping that our combined achievements are recognised, we feel that our case study will be a proud summary of Bridon’s progress, providing them with a way to demonstrate how they are leading the way in terms of having a positive approach to organisational and staff development within the steel industry.
