QED Consulting Newsletter January 2008

‘Happy New Year’ from QED Consulting

We hope you all had a lovely holiday and received our Christmas message in the last E bulletin? What better way to start the New Year than with the January edition of QED Consulting’s E bulletin. We are all back at our desks, armed with both personal and business resolutions, refreshed, motivated and raring to go! We hope you are feeling as positive and, if not, we guarantee that our E bulletins and plans for 2008 will support and enable your business resolutions to succeed! You can always give us a call to put our offer to the test!

To ease into the New Year in this month’s E bulletin we; reflect on 2007, think about the current skills challenges and how to meet them in the New Year and look at making those boring meetings more productive and pleasant in 2008!

2007 Reflections

In order to keep organisations fresh and energised change has to occur and 2007 brought significant changes for QED Consulting with a successful internal and board re structure. 2007 was certainly a busy year and as a result has enhanced internal motivations, operations and hopefully our service to you! We are now looking forward to an even busier 2008!

We would like to thank you for the support you have given us with our new initiatives over 2007 through feedback on our E bulletins and support and attendance at our programme of seminar and networking lunches. As we shared with you last month, you gave us some fantastic feedback in our client survey and are building in all feedback and responses to our plans for 2008.

Please remember we are here to help, (on the phone, over email and in person) whether you want to talk informally over problems or ideas, explore new possibilities and joint ventures or simply keep in touch. We look forward to supporting and working with you in 2008 and a prosperous new year for all!

Boring Board Meetings (part 1)

In the first of a three-part series, Jeremy Thorn, President of QED Consulting and experienced Non-Executive Director of a wide range of organisations, looks at Board Meetings and asks: ‘Do they serve any purpose?’

New directors of any organisation may quake at their early board meetings. What are we going to be asked? What is the etiquette? What can be said openly and what might better be left for more private conversation?

More experienced directors may also quake at the thought of their next board meeting for rather different reasons. Another waste of time? More ‘rear-view mirror driving’? More egos at work and obstacles in looking forward?
